What is a trademark?
A trademark is a word, phrase, symbol or design, or combination of words, phrases, symbols, or designs that identifies and distinguishes the goods of one party from those of others. A trademark is a brand name. The University of Richmond owns and controls the words, phrases, insignias and designs that have come to represent the University to the public.

Proper use of University trademarks
Use of University trademarks should reflect positively on the University. The University of Richmond is a private academic institution of the highest quality and as such, trademark usage should reinforce and promote the concept of high academic quality and standards. Thus, any use of University trademarks that is in poor taste or could be perceived to reflect poorly the quality institution that the University is will not be allowed.
